Billy Johnson had 7 hits and 2 RBI as the New York AL Yankees outscored the
Chicago AL White Sox in 21 innings 4 to 3.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. New York AL won the
hard fought contest in the 21st inning. After an out was recorded, George
McQuinn drew a walk. Phil Rizzuto next to the plate and he doubled. One out
later, Joe Dimaggio stepped up to the plate and he delivered a single. New
York AL provided plenty of action in the 4th inning plating 2 runs. New York
AL finished with 24 hits while Chicago AL ended up with 9.
Spud Chandler(2-1) allowed no runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Chandler got help from Bill Bevens who was credited with his 1st save. Joe
Haynes(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 1 walk in
3 innings.
'It felt really nice to get this win,' Chandler said. 'I kind of dictated the
game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
