Subject: ???? RESULTS ???? Los Angeles @ San Francisco

April 17

The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the slumping San Francisco Giants in 12 innings
at Candlestick Park by the score of 2 to 1.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Los Angeles won the
game in the 12th inning.  After an out was recorded, Chet Lemon singled.  One
out later, Mario Mendoza stepped up to the plate and he lined a one-base hit.
Davey Lopes then reached on an error scoring the run.  San Francisco went
down quietly in the bottom of the 12th.

Steve Howe(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Howe got help from Bobby Castillo who was credited with his 1st save.
Alan Hargesheimer(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck
loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work.

It was a laugher out at Candlestick Park.  The Los AngelesDodgers squad
ripped San Francisco pitching for a total of 14 runs.  Jerry Reuss(1-1), with
relief help from Tom Griffin, surrendered 2 runs to San Francisco.

Pedro Guerrero was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a
fine day at their team's expense.  He doubled plating two runs in the 3rd
inning, smacked a single in the 5th inning and cracked a two-run shot (his
2nd of the season) in the 8th inning.  Los Angeles out-hit San Francisco for
the game, 18 hits to 10.

The loss was charged to Lynn McGlothen(0-2).  He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
