May 12 Terry Puhl left the yard and had 4 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 11 to 2 at Wrigley Field. Puhl enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He stroked a one-base hit which scored a run in the 3rd inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 5th of the season) in the 5th inning. The Los Angeles offense was great, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. The winning pitcher was Rick Sutcliffe(4-1) who allowed 1 run in 5 innings. Jerry Koosman(2-3) took the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 7 innings. Los Angeles scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits. Mike Scioscia led off and started the rally when he stroked a single. Mario Mendoza stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Davey Lopes was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Jim Morrison stepped in and he drew a walk. Pedro Guerrero stepped into the box and lined a single, and an error was also committed, plating a run. Baker added his contribution to the rally and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Ron Cey stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk scoring the final run of the inning. Despite losing, Chicago NL out-hit Los Angeles 13 to 10. The victory was credited to Bobby Castillo(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Castillo got relief help from Steve Howe who gained credit for his 10th save. Bruce Sutter(0-3) was hit with the loss in relief. 'The only way this one could have been better', said Castillo, 'was if we had played it at home.'
