july 28 At D. C. Stadium the New York AL Yankees outscored the pitiful Washington Senators 5 to 2. New York AL had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning. The key offensive moment was provided by Tom Tresh who silenced the stadium when he smacked a three-run homer (his 22nd of the season). Despite losing, Washington out-hit New York AL 9 to 6. Fritz Peterson(6-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Peterson got help from Dooley Womack who was credited with his 7th save. The losing pitcher was Barry Moore(0-3). His ERA ballooned from 3.63 to 4.30 as he allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
