Game 1 The Montreal Expos had an easy time of it at Wrigley Field defeating the Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 6 to 1.
Bill Gullickson (7-2) had a solid outing for Montreal . He went 6 innings surrendering 4 hits and 1 walk. Gullickson struckout 7 Chicago NL batters. For the game Montreal out-hit Chicago NL 10 to 6.
Rick Reuschel (11-5) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 5 hits and no walks in 5 innings.
Game 2 Ed Whitson pitched 7 and two third strong innings as the Montreal Expos outscored the Chicago NL Cubs 1 to 0.
The winning run, and the only run, was scored by Montreal in the top of the 5th inning. Montreal had only 6 hits for the game.
Whitson (8-1) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Woodie Fryman earned the save, his 16th. Jerry Koosman (2-7) was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up only 5 hits and no walks.
Montreal extended their winning streak to 6 games.
Game 3 Right fielder Reggie Smith hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI as the seemingly unstoppable Montreal Expos defeated the struggling Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 12 to 6 at Wrigley Field.
Smith was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He delivered a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 3rd inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning and singled in the 9th inning. Montreal managed 15 in their victory.
Elias Sosa (5-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. The losing pitcher was Bruce Sutter (0-4) in relief. He allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.
Game 4 Manny Trillo went yard as the sizzling Montreal Expos defeated the floundering Chicago NL Cubs by a score of 6 to 0 at Wrigley Field.
Montreal set the tone of the game in the first inning when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. That was all Scott Sanderson (9-1) needed. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
Mike Proly gained credit for his 1st save. Dennis Lamp (4-5) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
This win by Montreal continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 9-1. For the season, they are a division leading 43-17. Chicago NL can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
