JUNE 26

Don Sutton took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers
outscored the Atlanta Braves in 13 innings 4 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings.  Los Angeles won the game in
the 13th inning.  Dusty Baker led off and he banged out a single.  Roy Lee
Jackson then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch.  One out later,
Mike Scioscia was the next batter, but he struck out.  Mario Mendoza stepped
in and he drew a walk.  Terry Puhl stepped into the box and doubled knocking
home two runners.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the
6th inning.

Steve Howe(2-3) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.  The
right-handed Sutton lost his no-hit bid when Chris Chambliss singled with
nobody out in the 6th inning.  Jackson(1-1) took the loss in relief.

In aclose game the Atlanta Braves got by the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score
of 4 to 2.

Atlanta had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning with the
help of 4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Dave McKay who made the
Atlanta fans a happy lot when he doubled which was good for two runs.  Los
Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed
runs across.

Doyle Alexander(8-7) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings.
Alexander was helped out by Rick Camp who recorded his 21st save.  Burt
Hooton(6-5) took the loss.

Billy Vanson was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we
just made one too many mistakes.  Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more
white hairs on this noggin of mine.'

JUNE 29

In a thriller the Atlanta Braves staged a dramatic comeback over the Los
Angeles Dodgers winning by a score of 2 to 1 at Fulton Co. Stadium.

Atlanta erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits.  Jerry Royster led off and keyed the
rally when he doubled.  After an out was recorded, Jeff Burroughs came up and
he singled scoring a run.  Gary Matthews then stroked a single.  Matthews
took second on the throw.  Dale Murphy was up next and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases.  After another out, Claudell Washington came
to the plate and lashed a single giving Atlanta the victory as 49,028 happy
fans celebrated wildly.  The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

Larry Bradford(2-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Steve
Howe(2-4) was the loser in relief.  Roger Slane was ebullient after the game,
'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.  Our guys just weren't going
to be denied.  And did you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a
very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
