JUNE 26 Don Sutton took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers outscored the Atlanta Braves in 13 innings 4 to 2. The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Los Angeles won the game in the 13th inning. Dusty Baker led off and he banged out a single. Roy Lee Jackson then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch. One out later, Mike Scioscia was the next batter, but he struck out. Mario Mendoza stepped in and he drew a walk. Terry Puhl stepped into the box and doubled knocking home two runners. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. Steve Howe(2-3) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. The right-handed Sutton lost his no-hit bid when Chris Chambliss singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Jackson(1-1) took the loss in relief. Atlanta had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Dave McKay who made the Atlanta fans a happy lot when he doubled which was good for two runs. Los Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Doyle Alexander(8-7) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Stadium. Atlanta erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Jerry Royster led off and keyed the rally when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Jeff Burroughs came up and he singled scoring a run. Gary Matthews then stroked a single. Matthews took second on the throw. Dale Murphy was up next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. After another out, Claudell Washington came to the plate and lashed a single giving Atlanta the victory as 49,028 happy fans celebrated wildly. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. Larry Bradford(2-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Steve Howe(2-4) was the loser in relief. Roger Slane was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that.
