Downing(6-14) gave New York AL a solid outing. He was reached for 5 hits and no walks in 7 innings and allowed 3 gopher balls. The Baltimore batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 9th. Downing got help from Dooley Womack who was credited with his 9th save. Wally Bunker(7-5) suffered the loss. He allowed New York AL 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings of work. Downing was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet.
