JULY 7 Jim Morrison had 2 base hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the lifeless San Francisco Giants in 10 innings by the score of 7 to 4 at Candlestick Park. The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Los Angeles won the hard fought contest in the 10th inning. After two were out Steve Garvey kicked off the action when he lashed a single. Dusty Baker was next and he drew a walk. Ron Cey then smacked a three-run homer (his 12th of the season). Los Angeles out-hit San Francisco for the game, 13 hits to 9. Tom Griffin(5-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Griffin got help from Steve Howe who earned his 22nd save. Alan Hargesheimer(1-3) took the loss in relief. He gave up 4 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. The Los Angeles ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 53-39. With this loss, San Francisco has a 3-7 record of late, 31-61, worst in the division overall.
