At Fulton Co. Stadium, the Atlanta faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Jack Kucek(1-0) finally bested his Atlanta counterpart,
Doyle Alexander(12-11), by the score of 2 to 0.
 
Atlanta was unable to recover after Los Angeles went ahead in the top of the
4th inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits.  Atlanta could do no damage
in the bottom of the 9th. 
 
Kucek was helped out by Bobby Castillo who recorded his 3rd save.  Alexander
was given the loss.  He pitched 7 innings giving up only 4 hits and 1 walk.

3rd of the season) in the 1st inning, tripled in the 3rd inning, banged out a
single in the 4th inning and doubled in the 9th inning.  For the game Los
Angeles out-hit Atlanta 11 to 5. 
 
Don Sutton(15-9) was the winner allowing no runs in 6 innings. Nino
Espinosa(1-3) was the loser.  He pitched 5 innings giving up 8 hits and 1

Burt Hootoncame through with a solid 6 innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers
defeated the Atlanta Braves by a score of 2 to 0 at Fulton Co. Stadium.
 
Los Angeles jumped on top of Atlanta in the top of the 2nd inning plating an
isolated run utilizing 2 base hits.  That was all the offense they were to
need.  Los Angeles out-hit Atlanta for the game, 10 hits to 5.
 
Hooton(11-7) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 6 innings. Hooton got
help from Joe Beckwith who earned his 1st save.  Phil Niekro(11-18) was the
losing pitcher. 
 
With this win, Los Angeles has a division leading 83-58 record.  They have
been 6-4 lately.  With the loss, the Atlanta ballclub's record is 72-69.

Joe Niekro went the distance as the Atlanta Braves won a dandy at Fulton Co.
Stadium over the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2 to 1.
 
The deciding run was scored by Atlanta in the bottom of the 9th.  Dale Murphy
providing the offense himself as he belted a solo home run (his 26th of the
season) making Atlanta the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
Both teams totaled 6 on the afternoon. 
 
Niekro(13-10) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Bobby
Castillo(3-4) was hit with the loss in relief.  He was unable to retire a
batter giving up 1 hit and no walks.
