Game One is in the books:
Mike Schmidt rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Montreal Expos beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 6 to 3.
It was a good day for Montreal thanks to Schmidt. He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st inning, lined a single in the 5th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning. Montreal had a total of 10 hits for the game.
Steve Rogers (1-0) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Rogers got relief help from Woodie Fryman who gained credit for his 1st save. Jerry Reuss (0-1) was the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6 and 1/3 innings of work.
Manager Steve Bivens had only one thing to say after the game: “I love Mike Schmidt”.
