44,993 fans were treated to a fine game at Briggs Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The very strong Boston AL Red Sox won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. Boston AL had the winning rally in the 8th inning plating 3 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Ted Williams was the sparkplug when he drew a walk. Rudy York stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an error. Bobby Doerr then lined a single. Doerr took second on the throw. After another out, Hal Wagner came to the plate and lined a base-hit. Boston AL totaled 7 hits on the night. The win was credited to Dick Mauney(2-2) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Bob Klinger gained credit for his 33rd save. Dizzy Trout(14-11) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
