April 11

Chet Lemon collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI and Fernando Valenzuela
completed the game without help from the bullpen at SHEA STADIUM as the Los
Angeles Dodgers embarrassed the New York NL Mets by the lopsided score of 11
to 1.

Los Angeles drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
as they scored 5 runs on 5 base hits.  That early scoring was all that
Valenzuela(1-0) needed.  Los Angeles dominated offensively as they scored in
6 different innings.

The loss was charged to Pat Zachry(0-1).  He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing
5 hits and no walks.
