APRIL 13 29,730 fans were treated to a fine game at Fulton Co. Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Atlanta Braves won by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2. In the bottom of the 4th inning Atlanta scored 2 runs with the help of 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Bruce Benedict who made the Atlanta fans a happy lot when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of the season). Los Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Joe Niekro(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Steve Renko got the save, his 1st. Jerry Reuss(0-2) took the loss. 'This was a tough loss,' said Billy Vanson, 'the kind that sticks with you for awhile.'
