Joe Nolan hit 2 doubles and Jerry Reuss delivered 8 solid innings at THREE
RIVERS STADIUM where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7 to
3.
 
Los Angeles tallied 4 runs in the 4th inning when they had 3 base hits. The
highlight belonged to Steve Garvey who deflated the crowd as he smashed a
two-run homer (his 1st of the season).  Los Angeles totaled 8 on the night.
 
The win went to Reuss(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. John
Candelaria(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in 7
innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers essentially took theday off at THREE RIVERS
STADIUM as the Los Angeles Dodgers offense erupted for 10 runs while Bob
Welch(2-1)with help from the bullpen shutout Pittsburgh.
 
Rick Burleson had a big day against Pittsburgh.  He slapped a one-base hit in
the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of the season)
in the 4th inning and laced a base-knock bringing in two baserunners in the
5th inning.  Overall Los Angeles out-hit Pittsburgh 15 to 8. 
 
Eddie Solomon(0-4) was given the loss.  He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 10 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

ThePittsburgh Pirates ended a long winless drought and edged the Los Angeles
Dodgers at THREE RIVERS STADIUM by the score of 4 to 3.
 
Pittsburgh scored 2 runs in the 7th inning.  The highlight belonged to Omar
Moreno who excited the crowd when he singled which was good for two runs.
Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put down the
rally. 
 
The winning pitcher was Al Hrabosky(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3
innings. Victor Cruz recorded his 1st save.  Tom Griffin(1-2) was the losing
pitcher. 
 
Jim Tripodi was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games
-- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back.  Now maybe we can relax a
little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'

Bert Blyleven tossed a fine 2 hitter and Dave Rosello had 3 base hits asthe
Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 2 to 1 at
THREE RIVERS STADIUM.
 
Pittsburgh won the game with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Rosello
lined a single.  Blyleven stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Omar Moreno was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Dickie Thon came up and he laced a one-base hit scoring the run.  Pittsburgh
had only 6 hits for the game. 
 
The victory went to Blyleven(3-1) who went the distance allowing 1 run.
Fernando Valenzuela(1-3) suffered the loss.  He pitched 8 innings allowing 6
hits and 1 walk.
