APRIL 23 Joe Nolan hit 2 doubles and Jerry Reuss delivered 8 solid innings at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7 to 3. Los Angeles tallied 4 runs in the 4th inning when they had 3 base hits. The highlight belonged to Steve Garvey who deflated the crowd as he smashed a two-run homer (his 1st of the season). APRIL 24 The Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers essentially took theday off at THREE RIVERS STADIUM as the Los Angeles Dodgers offense erupted for 10 runs while Bob Welch(2-1)with help from the bullpen shutout Pittsburgh. Rick Burleson had a big day against Pittsburgh. He slapped a one-base hit in the 1st inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 1st of the season) in the 4th inning and laced a base-knock bringing in two baserunners in the 5th inning. Overall Los Angeles out-hit Pittsburgh 15 to 8. Eddie Solomon(0-4) was given the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 10 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.
