Los Angeles took the lead off Mario Soto in the first inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits. Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but Los Angeles was able to put down the rally. Tom Griffin(3-5) was the winner allowing 6 runs in 7 innings. Griffin got help from Steve Howe who was credited with his 10th save. Soto(7-2) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 11 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. When questioned about the loss, Alan Boodman said, 'The fans got to see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
