WEB GEMS- Top 13th: Phil Roof blocked the plate, saving a run!

45,681 fans were treated to a fine game at Municipal Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Kansas City A's won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings.  Kansas City ended
up winning it in the 14th inning.  Don Mincher hit a single, and an error was
also committed.  Phil Roof stepped up next and he laced a base-knock making
Kansas City the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Kansas
City totaled 7 on the night.

The victory was credited to Paul Lindblad(4-6) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Bob Locker(7-4) was given the loss in relief.  It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
