Omar Moreno
stole home in game 3. First time I have seen that in a SMILEY game.
Game 1
In a
thriller the Montreal Expos staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 9 to 4 at THREE RIVERS
STADIUM.
Montreal won the
game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 6
runners on 6
hits. The critical plate appearance was by Andre Dawson who
deflated the
spirits of the home town crowd when he doubled clearing the
bases.
Montreal
finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Larry
Christenson (3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings.
Kent
Tekulve
(1-2) suffered the loss in relief. 'We just kept swinging the bats
and didn't
give up,' Mike Schmidt said. 'If you just keep trying good things
can happen!'
Game 2
Andre Dawson
had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Montreal Expos defeated the
Pittsburgh
Pirates by the score of 6 to 2 at THREE RIVERS STADIUM.
Dawson had a big day against
Pittsburgh .
He stroked a base-hit in the 3rd
inning,
lofted a three-run bomb (his 24th of the season) in the 5th inning,
laced a
single in the 7th inning and stroked a one-base hit which scored a
run in the
9th inning. Montreal
banged out 11 on the night.
Scott
Sanderson (7-3) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Jeff
Reardon was
credited with his 18th save. The loss was charged to Bob
Walk
(2-3). He was not very effective, surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 1/3
innings.
Game 3
Bert
Blyleven completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Pittsburgh
Pirates beat the Montreal Expos by a score of 4 to 3.
Pittsburgh scored the
deciding run in the 8th inning. After an out was
recorded,
Mike Easler banged out a single. One out later, Keith Moreland
stepped in
and he laced a base-hit scoring the run.
Montreal threatened in
the 9th but
their rally came up short.
The
win went to Blyleven (13-4) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Larry
Christenson
(3-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. 'Anytime you lose it
hurts,' said
Steve Bivens 'but it's losing the close ones that really hurt.'
Game 4
Keith
Moreland had 3 base hits at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where the
Pittsburgh
Pirates beat
the Montreal Expos by the score of 5 to 1.
Rick
Rhoden (5-8) delivered a fine performance for
Pittsburgh . He went 7 and
2/3 innings
allowing 6 hits and 2 walks. Overall Pittsburgh
out-hit Montreal
15 to
7.
Bob
Long recorded his 1st save. Steve Rogers (10-4) was hit with the
loss. He
gave up 5
runs and 13 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings.
