sept 1 In a game for the baseball purist, Mel Stottlemyre(11-13) and Dean Chance(8-16) squared off in a tense pitching duel, New York AL Yankees finally emerged victorious over pitiful Washington Senators, 3 to 1. New York AL tallied 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. That early run support was enough for Stottlemyre and New York AL. New York AL had 7 hits for the night. Stottlemyre was helped out by Dooley Womack who recorded his 12th save.
