Fernando Valenzuela had a strong outing as the Los Angeles Dodgers outscored
the St. Louis Cardinals 8 to 0.

Los Angeles wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
scored 2 runs on 3 hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  Los
Angeles rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon.

Valenzuela(15-11) was credited with the shutout. Bob Forsch(13-9) was the
losing pitcher.  'Valenzuela pitched a gem of a game', Rob Tomlinson
recounted.  'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
