august 22 Dusty Baker jacked one out of the ballyard and had 6 RBI at RIVERFRONT STADIUM as the Los Angeles Dodgers, running on all cylinders, ripped the Cincinnati Reds by a large 15 to 4 margin. Baker was a source of great heartache for the Cincinnati faithful all evening. He just kept pounding out hits! He smashed a two-run homer (his 13th of the season) in the 1st inning, banged out a single resulting in a run in the 8th inning and lined a one-base hit plating a run in the 9th inning. Los Angeles bats were hot in the 9th inning when they had 6 runs on 6 hits. The Los Angeles offense man-handled the Cincinnati pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings. The win went to Fernando Valenzuela(17-11) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings. Bruce Berenyi(11-6) was tagged with the loss. He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit in the 5th inning, ripped a solo home run (his 8th of the season) in the 7th inning and doubled in the 7th inning. Los Angeles lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning with 4 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning with 7 runs on 5 hits. Seaver(16-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Los Angeles offense. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. The right-handed Seaver had his no-hit bid broken up by Larry Milbourne who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Neither team managed to score after the 2nd inning. Jerry Reuss(13-9) was the losing pitcher. 'When Seaver is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Billy Vanson said. 'He always pitches well against us.'
