Subject: Blue Jays @ Brewers

The Jays and Brewers split the season finale; there were two one-run games, but the Jays won them both (!); so much for the record....

Game 1: Steve Stone was wild for MLA but effective enough to win his first game of 1981; final score: 4-2.  Willie Upshaw's first homer of the season gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Game 2: Toronto put 4 runs on the board - all unearned - in a 3-error 4th inning, on the way to a 4-3 win.  Reliever Jerry Garvin started for the Jays and lasted long enough to get the win.  Three TOA relievers combined to allow just 1 run (unearned) over the final four frames to seal the victory.

Game 3: Milwaukee & the dice & split cards had a surgical 1st inning against Dave Stieb, but the Jays returned the favor in the second, then answered MLA's 3-run 7th with a 3-run 8th and finally prevailed by the score of 8-7.  Luis Leal got his 17th win in relief, while Moose Haas, also in relief, notched his 17th loss of 1981.

Game 4: Ricky Keeton tossed 4.1 innings of solid relief when TOA knocked starter Wayne Garland out of the box in the first inning, and the Brewers eventually cruised to an 8-4 win.  Jesse Barfield was the star of the day at bat for Toronto, collecting 3 hits (all doubles) and 3 RBI in the losing effort.
