Subject: DEA at WAA results AND Congrast to CHA

First of all I would to congratulate Jon Fellows on winning the AL pennant. On paper it looks like the White Sox are overmatched against the mighty Giants, but I believe their pitching will lead them to the 1966 WS championship.

GAME ONE
Neither team could hit well with only 5 hits apiece. However a sixth inning single by Bill Freehan scored the only run the Tigers needed as they win 2 to 0. Newcomer Tom Kelley pitched 6 shutout innings, Luis Tiant the next 2, and Hal Woodeshick pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Willie Horton added a pinch single in the ninth which scored the second DEA run. Dean Chance pitched well (8 innings 1 run) but was still saddled with the loss, his 18th of the year.

GAME TWO
Denny McLain came within one out of his second straight shutout but still hung on for the complete game 3 to 2 victory. A Ken McMullen 2-run HR in the ninth brought McLain's scoreless inning streak to a halt. Both teams still struggled at the plate with only 9 hits total for the game.

GAME THREE
Both teams just did not want to win this one. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 15th and Vic Davalillo charging around third toward home plate after a Dick Nen single, Joe Nossek came up throwing strong with not much of a chance to get Vic (1-19 safe) but with a split roll of 19, Bill Freehan was able to block the plate and WAA was denied. The Senators ended up winning in the bottom of the 16th when Fred Valentine was able to double in Paul Casanova with two outs. WAA got a bit of luck here as Al Kaline was the OF involved and Casanova's safe chance was 1-10. The Tigers were there own worst enemies as they had 16 LOB in the game and managed only 3 hits in the final 10 1/3 innings against 5 WAA relievers.

GAME FOUR
The Tigers finally got their bats back for this one. An Al Kaline 4th inning pinch 3-run HR was followed in the next innings by back-to-back HR's by Willie Horton and Norm Cash to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead. However, Mickey Lolich and Luis Tiant allowed the Senators to tie it up 6-6 by the seventh inning. Joe Adcock then ended the WAA hopes by smashing a pinch 3-run HR (his 10th PH homer of the year and 17th overall for DEA) off of reliever Dick Lines to make 9 to 6. Ron Kline picked up the victory in relief.
