Subject: Twins @ A's Game Files & Boxes
The incredible A's increase their winning streak by two more games until finally losing to the Twins in the third game of a three game series in Oaktown. The A's enjoyed a nine game winning streak during a period that the Twins went 5-5 thus closing to within two games of the first place Twins; 17-7 and 15-9 respectively. Game One: Surprise starter Tom "the Blade" Hall made manager Ramacier look like an idiot when he gave up a 1st inning grand slam to Richie Allen. The Blade was gone by the third inning as he gave up 6 earned runs. Meanwhile Andy Messersmith 3 hit the Twins in a complete game victory as the A's cruised to a 10-1 win. Rich Reese had all three Twin hits including a double and a triple. Messersmith helped his cause with two hits and 2 rbi. Owner Ramacier said afterward, "The Blade is still one of my favorite young players, I just think Manager Ramacier needs to recognize that Tom is not ready to start and should be in the pen." Game Two: This game was called a Strat special by Manager Ramacier. He felt doomed by the dice, and came up short time and time again on X-chances and with the 20 sided die. Ramacier said that he would have lost his house had he been playing craps in Vegas. Ramacier said this was bound to happen given the good dice luck he had received this season in earlier contests. Oakland was led by the great Richie Allen in a 10 hit attack against Larry Dierker who fell to 3-3. Young Reggie Jackson hit his 5th HR. Blue Moon Odom evened his record at 2-2. Game Three: The A's led through eight 2-1. In the top of the ninth, Twins pinch hitter Rod Carew came on and hit a blast off of A's closer Chuck Hartenstein. It was a two run shot over the right field fence that put the Twins up 3-2. Ron Perranoski came on and shut the A's down for his seventh save. It was Carew's third HR on the young season and his fourth game winning hit. It took the Twins two best players on the young season thus far to come through in spectacular fashion for the Twins to finally end the vaunted A's winning streak. Dean Chance got the win in relief for the Twins, he is 2-0. While Chuck Hartenstein lost, he is 1-2 with three blown saves. Strangely. A's catcher Mike Ryan hit his 2nd HR of the year. The supposedly light hitting Ryan is hitting .279! The race is on in the West! The Twins go home to play the Pale Hose and then go to Yankee stadium. |
