Left fielder Dusty Baker had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Fernando Valenzuela
allowed Billy Vanson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Fulton
Co. Stadium where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves by the
score of 10 to 4.

Los Angeles took the lead for keeps in the top of the 5th inning scoring 3
runners on 2 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Steve Sax who deflated
the crowd as he tripled which was good for two runs.  Los Angeles had a total
of 12 hits for the game.

Valenzuela(1-0) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 4 runs. John
Denny(0-1) was the loser.  He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings.

April 10

Manny Sarmiento performed beautifully in relief as the Atlanta Braves
outscored the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 3.

Obviously without his best stuff, Phil Niekro(1-0) still hung on to pick up
the win.  He gave up 3 runs, 6 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.  Sarmiento
pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 1st save.

Jerry Reuss(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 8
innings.
