Subject: Expos at Cubs Week 3

New manager attached.

Game 1

The Montreal Expos extended their winning streak and defeated the Chicago NL

Cubs by a score of 8 to 5 at Wrigley Field.

Montreal had 4 runs cross the plate in the 2nd inning when they had 4 base

hits.  The critical plate appearance was by Joe Ferguson who silenced the

crowd when he smashed a two-run homer (his 1st of the season).  Chicago NL

threatened in the 9th but Montreal was able to put down the rally.

The victory was credited to Larry Christenson (4-0) who went 7 innings,

allowing 1 run. Tommy John (1-3) ended up with the loss.  He was knocked

around by Montreal , allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.

'It felt really nice to get this win,' Christenson said. 'I kind of dictated

the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'

Game 2

Mike Schmidt had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as the Montreal Expos

won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Chicago NL Cubs by the count

of 11 to 3.

Montreal put a big number on the board in the top of the 9th inning, which

proved too much for Chicago NL to overcome as they showed no mercy on Chicago

blasting them for 10 hits and plating 9 runs.  The critical plate

appearance was by Gary Carter who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd

when he lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 4th of the season).

Overall Montreal out-hit Chicago NL 15 to 10.

The victory was credited to Woodie Fryman (1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning,

allowing 1 run. Porfi Altamirano (0-1) was the loser in relief.  'I pin this

one on my own shoulders,' Altamirano said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get

the job done.  Our fans deserve better than this.'

Game 3

In a good matchup it was the Chicago NL Cubs 4, the Montreal Expos 2 at

Wrigley Field.

Chicago NL took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning scoring one runner.

Montreal threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The victory went to Dickie Noles (3-2) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2

runs. Tippy Martinez earned his 2nd save.  The losing pitcher was Charlie

Lea (2-1).  He gave up 8 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

Game 4

The Montreal Expos had very little trouble at Wrigley Field downing the

Chicago NL Cubs.  The score was 6 to 1.

Chicago NL was unable to recover after Montreal went ahead in the top of the

4th inning plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits.  Chicago NL was

out-hit by Montreal , 11 hits to 7.

The winning pitcher was Steve Rogers (3-1) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings.

Randy Martz (0-3) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 7

innings.

The Montreal ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 15-3.  Chicago

NL can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'.  Now they have a miserable

2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
