Center fielder Johnny Hopp went yard and had 3 RBI at Sportsman's Park as the
St. Louis NL Cardinals beat the Washington Senators by the count of 4 to
2.
Hopp enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in
the 1st inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 2nd inning and
delivered a base-hit in the 7th inning. The pitchers took over after the 4th
inning as neither team was able to score again.
Ted Wilks(1-0) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Red Munger
preserved the game for Wilks, recording his his 1st save. Ken
Raffensberger(0-1) was hit with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 6
innings.
