Craig Swan pitched 8 strong innings at Shea Stadium as the New York NL Mets
beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 2.

Los Angeles lost it in the 7th inning when New York NL did all their damage
when they tallied 4 runs on 4 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by
Swan who brought a roar from the partisan Shea Stadium fans when he popped a
two-run clout over the fence.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel
until the 7th inning.

Swan(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 1 run.
Swan got help from Neil Allen who was credited with his 5th save.  Dave
Stewart(2-2) was charged with the loss.

The win by New York NL was very good news as they had been 2-8 of late.  Now
their seasonal record improves to 14-9.  Billy Vanson was unhappy with his
club's recent performance.  'We can't keep losing games' he said.  'It gets
to be embarrassing after a while.'
