Game 1 Mike Schmidt had 2 base hits at Shea Stadium as the Montreal Expos beat the New York NL Mets 3 to 1.
Montreal had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Terry Francona started the inning off right when he banged out a single. Scott Sanderson followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Tim Raines then singled resulting in a run. Raines was safe on a stolen base. After another out, Schmidt stepped in and he lashed a single scoring the final run of the inning. New York NL had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
Sanderson (4-3) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Sanderson got relief help from Jeff Reardon who gained credit for his 9th save. Craig Swan (3-3) was hit with the loss.
Game 2 Al Oliver homered and had 3 RBI as the Montreal Expos outscored the New York NL Mets 10 to 3.
Charlie Lea (6-1) pitched well for Montreal in their victory. He surrendered 5 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Montreal ended up with 12 hits for the game while New York NL had 6.

Game 3 Steve Carlton reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Shea Stadium where the New York NL Mets beat the Montreal Expos 3 to 2.

Steve Bivens lamented (as he often does), 'He just was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
Game 4 Keith Hernandez cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Shea Stadium as the New York NL Mets beat the Montreal Expos 8 to 4.
New York NL wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 4 runs on 5 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Hernandez who electrified Shea Stadium when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 4th of the season). For the game New York NL out-hit Montreal 14 to 8.
