Gary Peters took a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Chicago AL White Sox
topped the San Francisco Giants by a score of 3 to 0 at Comiskey
Park.
Peters(1-1) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
San Francisco batters. He didn't give up much, just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9
innings. Peters chalked up 11 strikeouts lowering his ERA to 1.15. The
left-handed Peters lost his chance for a no-hitter when Tommy Davis doubled
with nobody out in the 7th inning. Chicago AL rapped out 7 hits for the
afternoon.
Gaylord Perry(0-2) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 3 runs and 7 hits in 7
and 1/3 innings. Peters was pleased with his performance. He noted, 'I had
good zip on my pitches. Just as important, my location was right on. The
fans really got into the game too - that always helps me. Now, if I can only
do that again in my next outing.'
