The Atlanta Braves edged the Los Angeles Dodgers at Fulton Co. Stadium by the
score of 3 to 2.

Atlanta came up with all the runs they needed in the 4th inning when they
scored 3 runs on 2 hits.  The key at-bat was by Bob Horner who thrilled the
crowd when he belted a three-run homer (his 10th of the season).  The
pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score
again.

John Denny(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Steve Bedrosian earned the save, his 14th.  Jerry Reuss(4-6)
was tagged with the loss.

at Fulton Co. Stadium in an evening game.  The Los Angeles Dodgers scored 6
runs for the win.

Los Angeles jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring one

Ellis Valentine hit a homerun and Manny Sarmiento shutout LosAngeles while
allowing the Atlanta bullpen a day-off as the Atlanta Braves outscored the
Los Angeles Dodgers 3 to 0.

Sarmiento(5-2) looked very much in control throughout the day.  He was stingy
on the mound, allowing just 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA
drop from 2.54 to 2.15.  The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as
neither team was able to score again.

The loss was charged to Fernando Valenzuela(8-4).  He got hit hard, allowing
11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.
