Second baseman Bob Bailor had 2 base hits as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the
Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 1 to 0 at Riverfront Stadium.

Mario Soto(7-4) gave Cincinnati a solid outing.  He allowed only 5 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  Soto recorded 9 strikeouts improving his ERA
from 3.14 to 2.90.  Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.

Soto got relief help from Terry Forster who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Fernando Valenzuela(10-5) suffered the loss.  Billy Vanson was clearly
disappointed after the game.  'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he
said, 'We should have had this one.'
