June 14 Bill Madlock smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and John Candelaria came through with a solid 9 innings at Three Rivers Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6 to 1. Madlock provided much of the offense. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st inning, smacked a single plating a run in the 2nd inning, ripped a solo home run (his 11th of the season) in the 4th inning and ripped a base-knock in the 7th inning. Pittsburgh rapped out 12 hits for the night. The win went to Candelaria(6-5) who allowed 1 run in the game. Jerry Reuss(5-9) suffered the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 innings of work. Pittsburgh now has a record of 37-34. With this loss, Los Angeles has a 4-6 record of late, 35-36 overall. Parker enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 7th of the season) in the 8th inning. Pittsburgh managed 8 in their victory. Rod Scurry(3-4) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. The left-handed McWilliams lost his chance for a no-hitter when Bob Welch singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Joe Beckwith(1-1) absorbed the loss in relief.
