July 1 Terry Puhl had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Fernando Valenzuela went 9 strong innings as the San Diego Padres were badly beaten by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11 to 1. Puhl had a big day against San Diego. He tripled scoring a run in the 1st inning, stroked a base-hit in the 4th inning, lashed a single in the 7th inning and delivered a solo blast (his 2nd of the season) in the 9th inning. Los Angeles totaled 14 on the night. The victory went to Valenzuela(14-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The losing pitcher was Dave Dravecky(3-4). Los Angeles scored big getting 8 runs off him in 3 and 2/3 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Mike Tomeo said. Valenzuela pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'
