Keith Hernandez had 5 hits and Neil Allen closed it out for New York NL as the
New York NL Mets outscored the Los Angeles Dodgers 7 to 6.

Los Angeles never recovered after New York NL took the lead in the bottom of
the 7th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits.  Jim Dwyer opened up the scoring as he
cracked a solo homerun (his 4th of the season).  Mookie Wilson next to the
plate and he delivered a single.  Wilson took his lead and swiped second.
Hernandez followed and he lined a one-base hit bringing in another run.  Toby
Harrah got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.
Johnny Bench kept the inning going and drew a walk.  George Foster came next
and he drew a walk to load the bases.  After another out, Phil Garner stepped
up to the plate and he drew a walk scoring the final run of the inning.
Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Los Angeles could not get the win.

The win went to Ed Lynch(8-4) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Lynch got help
from Allen who earned his 17th save.  The loss was charged to Tom
Niedenfuer(4-4) in relief.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 3
runs in 2 innings.
