Fernando Valenzuela touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers
beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 6 to 3.

Los Angeles brought 4 runs across the plate in the 4th inning with the help of
5 hits.  The big moment was provided by Valenzuela who helped quiet the crowd
when he cracked a two-run shot.  Pittsburgh was set down quietly in the
bottom of the 9th.

The victory went to Valenzuela(23-10) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Valenzuela got help from Tom Niedenfuer who earned his 4th save.  John
Candelaria(11-14) was the losing pitcher.

Center fielder Pedro Guerrero slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at Three Rivers
Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count
of 7 to 5.

Los Angeles drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits.  The key at-bat was by Guerrero who
silenced the stadium when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 34th
of the season).  Pittsburgh could do no damage in the bottom of the 9th.

The win went to Bob Welch(14-9) who allowed 2 runs in 6 innings. Welch got
relief help from Steve Howe who gained credit for his 30th save.  Don
Robinson(14-16) absorbed the loss.  He was knocked around, surrendering 7
runs in 5 innings.

September  9

First baseman Steve Garvey had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium
as the incredible Los Angeles Dodgers beat the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates
by the count of 16 to 10.

Los Angeles wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they
scored 5 runs on 3 base hits.  Los Angeles kept the scorekeepers busy in the
1st inning when they had 5 runs on 3 hits and the 9th inning with 4 runs on 4
hits.  Pittsburgh scored in 5 different innings, but their shaky pitching
kept them from victory.

Dave Stewart(7-8) got the win allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Steve Mura(4-17)
was charged with the loss.
