Subject: Expos at Pirates Games 4-7

New manager attached.

Game 2

Tony Bernazard hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the Montreal Expos staged a

dramatic comeback over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 10 to 8 at THREE

RIVERS STADIUM.

Montreal had the game winning rally in the top of the 8th inning when they

scored 4 runs on 4 hits.  The key at-bat was by Denny Walling who deflated

the spirits of the home town crowd when he doubled plating two runs.

Although they lost, Pittsburgh did out-hit Montreal 16 to 9.

The win was credited to Steve Rogers (1-1) who went 7 innings allowing 4 runs.

Jeff Reardon recorded his 1st save.  Larry McWilliams (0-2) was the loser.  He

gave up 6 runs and 4 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Rogers , 'I got burned on

a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'

Game 3

Second baseman Tony Bernazard cracked a homer at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where

the Montreal Expos beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to

3.

Montreal went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning scoring one runner

using 2 hits.  Overall Montreal out-hit Pittsburgh 10 to 4.

Vern Ruhle (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Jeff

Reardon recorded his 2nd save.  Bert Blyleven (0-1) ended up with the loss.

Game 4

In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 5, the Montreal Expos 3 at THREE

RIVERS STADIUM.

John Candelaria (2-0) pitched a fine game.  He went 5 and 2/3 innings

surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks.  Montreal threatened in the 9th but

Pittsburgh was able to put down the rally.

Kent Tekulve earned the save, his 2nd.  Bill Gullickson (1-1) was the loser.

He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk.

'We won because we did the little things right.' Mike Mashanic said after the

game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get

in close games we don't make mistakes.'
