Larry McWilliams went the distance at THREE RIVERS STADIUM where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 to 1.
 
In the bottom of the 6th inning Pittsburgh scored 4 runs with the help of 5
hits.  They would be enough to earn the win.  Pittsburgh finished with 10
hits in the victory. 
 
McWilliams(2-3) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Bob Welch(1-3) was
the loser.  He allowed 8 hits and no walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Mike Easler homered and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates beatthe Los
Angeles Dodgers by a score of 4 to 2.
 
Pittsburgh took the lead off Mike Torrez in the first inning scoring one
runner.  Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put
down the rally. 
 
Rick Rhoden(3-1) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Kent
Tekulve earned his 4th save.  Torrez(1-3) was the losing pitcher. 
 
The win by Pittsburgh was very good news as they had been 2-8 of late.  Now
their seasonal record improves to 8-8.  Los Angeles continued their losing
ways and their record is now 5-11.  They are 2-8 in their last ten games.

The Los Angeles Dodgers nipped the Pittsburgh Pirates 6 to 5 at THREE RIVERS
STADIUM in a hard fought contest.
 
Los Angeles scored the deciding run in the 8th inning.  After two outs George
Bjorkman doubled.  Mike Marshall stepped into the batter's box and he doubled
scoring the run.  Los Angeles finished with 14 hits while Pittsburgh ended up
with 5. 
 
Frank Dipino(2-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Tom Niedenfuer
recorded his 4th save.  Lee Tunnell(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.  He
pitched 2 innings giving up 2 hits and 2 walks.

the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 7 to 2 at THREE RIVERS STADIUM.
 
Lee Tunnell(1-1) was the winning pitcher with a solid relief performance.  He
surrendered only 3 hits and no walks in 3 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA
from 3.52 to 2.45.  The right-handed Blyleven had his no-hit bid broken up by
Dusty Baker who singled with one out in the 6th inning.  Pittsburgh had 10
hits for the afternoon while Los Angeles had 5. 
 
Fernando Valenzuela(1-3) absorbed the loss.  He pitched 7 innings giving up 7
hits and 2 walks.
