Guys,
Attached you'll find the preliminary .lzp file for the 1941 season. Please look things over and see if your roster looks accurate. I have to update the file on the websiteagain for player status.
Speaking of the website, I have had a conversation with Alan Boodman, and he will no longer be operating the SMILEY website for pre-smiley, nor will he be owning/managing the Chicago Cubs any more going "backward." Alan has done such a tremendous job with both SMILEY and pre-SMILEY, and will obviously be missed. And, of course, he's a great resource whenever I have a question on how to do anything regarding league administration.
So...
I need to have an idea of whether each of you plans on participating for 1941?
We have at least 2 ways of proceeding forward if all owners stay.
1) We could fold two franchises... (I wouldn't mind giving up the Braves, for instance.) This would make it easier to cover AB/IP issues. We'd have 6 teams in each league, and that would make the schedule more normalized also.
2) We find another owner for the vacant franchise. If we go this way, I would like to have assistance recruiting that prospective league member. I was able to add David Dick for the A's this year (and he's done a fine job), but I just don't know who else would be interested, and I'm not sure how many other candidates want to manage/own a SOM team from the 1930's-early 40's.
If we do find another owner, I may need to change some of our roster parameters. We may need to have a forced cutdown. For instance, we already have a limit for innings you can stock, but maybe since we draft to 27 men on our roster, maybe each team should cut back to 24 players. That would free up a few players to the player pool, or it might make teams trade with each other more. This is just an idea Alan and I discussed. Also, we reduced rosters to 27 last year, and I think that has worked rather well. We might be wise to reduce one more to 26.
Regarding any of these proposals, I'd be interested in receiving feedback on the Yahoo Groups site. The main thing I want to know is 1) will you be returning, 2) what would you prefer, find 14th team owner or fold 2 teams, and 3) what do you think about some of the roster ideas to cover usage.
Thanks for making the 1942 season worthwhile, and I appreciate everyone getting results done and supporting the continuation of pre-smiley!!!
