May 5 One run was the difference at CANDLESTICK PARK as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the floundering San Francisco Giants 5 to 4. Steve Howe(1-0) pitched in relief and was credited with the victory. He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1 inning lowering his ERA from 2.70 to 2.08. San Francisco went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. Tom Niedenfuer recorded the save, his 7th. Dale Murray(0-2) took the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings and surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk. The Los Angeles ballclub's record now stands at 14-15. Brian Curran was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'
