One run was the difference at Olympic Stadium as the Montreal Expos defeated
the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 3.

Montreal scored 2 runs in the 5th inning when they had 3 base hits.  They
ended up being the winning runs.  Los Angeles had a chance to come back in
the 9th but they came up short.

Steve Rogers(8-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Jeff
Reardon recorded the save, his 14th.  The loss was charged to Jerry
Reuss(7-3).  He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Billy Vanson 'but it's losing the close ones
that really hurt.'

Gary Carter left the yard and had 3 RBI as the Montreal Expos defeated the Los
Angeles Dodgers 5 to 3 at Olympic Stadium.

Montreal erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 8th inning as
they scored 4 runs on 3 base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Carter
who excited the crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 8th of the
season).  Montreal finished with 11 hits while Los Angeles ended up with 5.

The winning pitcher was Vern Ruhle(5-2) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning. Ruhle
got relief help from Jeff Reardon who gained credit for his 15th save.  Tom
Niedenfuer(1-2) ended up with the loss in relief.

innings.
