The Los Angeles Dodgers put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning and
easily topped the Atlanta Braves; the final score was 11 to 4.
 
Alejandro Pena(4-3) delivered a fine performance for Los Angeles.  He allowed
4 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.  Atlanta was out-hit by Los Angeles, 14 hits
to 4. 
 
Burt Hooton earned his 2nd save.  Craig McMurtry(4-4) absorbed the loss.  He
was hit hard and gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Atlanta claimed the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 3 runs on
3 hits.  That scoring would be all that was needed.  Atlanta rapped out 7
hits for the night. 
 
The win was credited to Joe Niekro(8-4) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Niekro got help from Steve Bedrosian who earned his 12th save.  The
loss was charged to Mike Torrez(6-7).  He surrendered 6 hits and 5 walks in 6
innings. 
 
Atlanta now has a record of a division leading 40-25.  With the loss Los
Angeles now has a record of 34-31.

Gary Matthews blasted a homerun at Fulton Co. Stadium where the Atlanta Braves
beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 to 2.
 
Pascual Perez(7-2) pitched a solid game.  He surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks in
7 and 2/3 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.14 to 3.74.  Los Angeles
threatened in the 9th but Atlanta was able to put down the rally. 
 
Fernando Valenzuela(4-9) was given the loss.  The Atlanta ballclub's record
now stands at a division leading 41-25.  With this loss, Los Angeles has a
5-5 record of late, 34-32 overall.

Jerry Reuss(8-3) delivered a fine performance for Los Angeles.  He was reached
for 7 hits and no walks in 7 innings.  The teams had been locked in a
scoreless duel until the 6th inning. 
 
Reuss got help from Steve Howe who earned his 4th save.  Phil Niekro(2-3) was
the losing pitcher.  With this win, Los Angeles has a 35-32 record.  They
