Subject: Expos at Mets Week 10

New manager attached.

Game 1

After allowing a single (7 on a 1-9 split) to Mookie Wilson to lead of the bottom

of the 1st inning, Charlie Lea retired the next 27 Met batters.  Andre Dawson

collected 2 extra-base hits and the Montreal Expos topped the New York NL Mets

by a score of 6 to 0 at SHEA STADIUM.

Lea (6-5) dominated New York NL hitters.  He didn't give up much, just 1 hit

and no walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.26 to 3.80.  Montreal

rapped out 9 hits for the night.

Walt Terrell (3-7) was the losing pitcher.  He pitched 6 innings giving up 7

hits and 3 walks. 'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said

Lea. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my control and composure

and everything went well.'

Game 2

Bryn Smith took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Montreal Expos beat the

New York NL Mets by a score of 6 to 0.

Smith (5-1) gave Montreal a solid outing.  He was stingy on the mound, allowing

just 2 hits and no walks in 7 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.43 to 3.15.

The right-handed Smith lost his chance for a no-hitter when Gary Rajsich

singled with two outs in the 6th inning.  Montreal had 8 hits overall, while

New York NL had 5.

Game 3

In a close game (kudos to Jeff Reardon) it was the Montreal Expos 5,

the New York NL Mets 3 at SHEA STADIUM.

In the 2nd inning Montreal went on top for good plating a run on an Andre

Dawson home run.  New York NL had a chance to come back in the 9th

but they came up short.

The victory went to Steve Rogers (10-5) who went 6 innings, allowing 1 run.

Glenn Abbott (1-1) was the loser.  He served up 4 gopher balls in 5 innings.

Game 4

Andre Dawson had 4 hits and scored 4 times as the Montreal Expos topped the

New York NL Mets by a score of 10 to 4 at SHEA STADIUM.

Dawson had a big day at the plate.  He delivered a solo blast (his 8th of the

season) in the 2nd inning, smacked a single in the 3rd inning, doubled in the

7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning.  Montreal finished with 10 hits in

the victory.

The win went to Larry Christenson (2-2) who allowed 4 runs in 5 innings. Steve

Carlton (8-5) was charged with the loss.  By surrendering 8 runs in 4 and 2/3

innings his ERA jumped from 3.07 to 3.52.
