august 20 Lee Smith delivered 3 solid innings at Olympic Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Montreal Expos in 13 innings by the count of 5 to 3. The score was tied at 3 after nine. Los Angeles won it in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, Steve Kemp began the rally when he drew a walk. Pedro Guerrero next to the plate and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 23rd of the season). Both teams ended up with 7 on the night. Los Angeles fell behind quickly as the Montreal offense came through in the first inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Bernazard kicked off the action when he stroked a base-hit. Mike Schmidt next to the plate and he drew a walk. Andre Dawson then slapped a single to load the bases. Harold Baines was up next and he hit a deep fly resulting in a run. Gary Carter stepped into the box and singled which was good for two more runs.
