The Mets came from behind in the first game of the series to beat the Giants 3-2. Pinch-hitter Richie Hebner doubled in 2 runs for the Mets in the bottom of the 7th, and then Mookie Wilson (who went 3 for 4 on the day) clobbered a homer in the bottom of the 8th to put the Mets on top for good.
It's the second game of the year, and I'm already sick of Mookie! The Mookster goes 3-4 AGAIN with 3 runs and 3 RBI's, and another homer. Mets win 6-4, behind Steve Carlton's quietly effective pitching.
Game 3 was a terrific pitching duel between Bob Knepper and Ron Darling. The Mets scored two in the first and held on the rest of the way for a tense 2-1 victory. Yes, Mookie was involved, leading the game off with a double and coming home whenKeith Hernandez also doubled. We held Mookie to a 1 for 3 day though, so a morale victory for SF :-)
Game 4 brought the first victory of the year for SF. Danny Darwin, Gary Lavalle, and Luis Sanchez combined on a shutout to beat the Mets 4-0. SF got some unearned runs of the impressive youngster Dwight Gooden early, and staved off trouble throughout to preserve the win.
First round selection Steve Balboni is pressing, he's 1-14 with 7 K's so far this year. As for my friend Mookie, he's hitting .533 with 2 homers, slugging 1.067, and has an OPS of 1.629!!!
