In a close game the San Francisco Giants got by the Pittsburgh Pirates by the
score of 5 to 3.
San Francisco brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 6th inning
when they had 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Jim Ray Hart
who disappointed the partisan crowd when he lost the ball over the fence for
three runs (his 2nd of the season). San Francisco managed 7 in their
victory.
The victory was credited to Warren Spahn(1-0) who went 5 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Spahn got help from Masanori Murakami who was credited with
his 1st save. The loss was charged to Earl Wilson(0-1).
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Spahn said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
