April 12 Mike Marshall cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants by a score of 6 to 5 at Candlestick Park. Los Angeles won the game with a run in the top of the 8th inning. After two were out John Candelaria banged out a single. Bill Schroeder next to the plate and he doubled scoring the run. San Francisco made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The victory was credited to Ken Howell(3-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Lee Smith was credited with his 4th save. The loss was charged to Gary Lavelle(0-1) in relief. 'You have to give San Francisco credit, they fought us tough to the end' Billy Vanson said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.'
