Game 1

The New York NL Mets offense put up 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning

and had an easy time of it at Shea Stadium defeating the Montreal Expos by a

score of 7 to 2.

New York NL scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help of 5

hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Ozzie Virgil who thrilled the

crowd when he doubled plating all three baserunners. New York NL had a total

of 10 hits for the game.

The winning pitcher was Ed Lynch (1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Neil Allen gained credit for his 2nd save. Steve Rogers (0-1) was the loser.

He was unable to control the New York NL offense and allowed 7 hits and 2

walks in 4 innings.

Game 2

Tim Raines connected with a 'big fly' as the Montreal Expos topped the New

York NL Mets by a score of 3 to 2 at Shea Stadium.

Montreal took the lead off Steve Carlton in the first inning scoring a single

run using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Bernazard drew a walk.

Mike Schmidt followed and he delivered a one-base hit. Gary Carter then

stroked a base-hit scoring the run. New York NL had a chance to come back in

the 9th but they came up short.

Bryn Smith (1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Jeff Reardon recorded

his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Carlton (2-1).

'We really needed this win' said Steve Bivens. 'That first drink of water at

the end of a drought sure does taste good!'

Game 3

The Montreal Expos defeated the New York NL Mets by a score of 6 to 3 at Shea

Stadium.

Montreal had 3 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning with the help

of 4 hits. Gary Carter kicked off the action when he ripped a base-knock.

After an out was recorded, Spike Owen came up and he lined a single. Tony

Bernazard then reached on an error knocking in a run. Dan Schatzeder

followed and he delivered a base-hit driving home another two teammates.

Schatzeder (1-0) got help from Jeff Reardon who pitched great and earned his

4th save.

Ron Darling (1-2) absorbed the loss. By surrendering 5 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings

his ERA jumped from 4.38 to 5.09. Montreal , who had been struggling lately,

moved their record to 5-9.
