Game 1 Third baseman Mike Schmidt hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Montreal Expos outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 8 to 6.
Montreal scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Harold Baines got things rolling when he reached on an error. Gary Carter stepped up next and he doubled plating a run. After another out, Spike Owen stepped in and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Montreal totaled 11 hits on the night.
The win was credited to Mike Armstrong (1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Armstrong got help from Jeff Reardon who was credited with his 6th save. Bruce Sutter (1-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Steve Bivens sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'
Game 2 Gary Carter blasted 2 homeruns and Bryn Smith delivered 8 solid innings as the Montreal Expos topped the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 5 to 1 at Busch Stadium.
Montreal promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was enough for Smith (2-0) and Montreal . Montreal had 7 hits for the night.
Ricky Horton (0-2) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 5 hits in 6 innings.
Game 3 In a dramatic ending the Montreal Expos staged a comeback and held on to win over the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 5 to 4.
Montreal came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Luis Aguayo kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Tim Raines came to the plate and delivered a base-hit. Raines took second on the throw. Denny Walling then stroked a single, and an error was also committed, knocking home two runners. Montreal had 14 hits for the night while St. Louis had 9.
The victory went to Salome Barojas (1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Barojas got help from Jeff Reardon who was credited with his 7th save. Bruce Sutter (1-2) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 6 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
Sutter was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
Game 4 Harold Baines had 3 base hits at Busch Stadium where the Montreal Expos beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 5 to 2.

Spike Owen got things rolling when he providing the offense himself as he belted a solo home run (his 1st of the season). Larry Milbourne next to the plate and he lined a single. Tim Raines then stroked a single. After an out was recorded, Tony Bernazard stepped up to the plate and he stroked a base-hit driving in one more runner. Mike Schmidt stepped into the box and drew a walk. Baines kept the rally going and laced a base-knock to load the bases. Gary Carter stepped up next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis was out-hit by Montreal , 13 hits to 7.
