Subject: Yanks at Senators
The Bronx Bombers have gotten hot. After taking 2 of 3 from the Pilots earlier in the week in NY, The Yankees traveled to the nations capitol and prceeded to take four games from the Senators. Game 1 The Senators scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd and made that stand until the seventh inning when the Yanks got five hits and scored four runs. The big hit was a 2 out, 2 rbi single by Roy White. Both teams chalked up single runs in the 8th and the Yankees win 5-2. Stottelmyer wins (8-7). Coleman lost (2-5). Billy Cowen went 3-4 with a HR. Yankees 5-9-0 Senators 2-5-2 Game 2 Another well pitched game with neither team doing much of anything until the Yankees put a 2 spot on the board in the 6th inning. Frank Fernandez pitched a 4 hitter for the win (5-5) while Ken Tatum came on in the ninth, after Frank Howard hit his 15th homerun of the year to collect his 12th save. The lose went to Grant Jackson, now 5-4. The Bombers played small ball with 11 hits (only 2 for extra bases) and 3 sacrifices. Yankees 3-11-0 Senators 1-4-0 Game 3 The Yankees came from behind to win this one in the most exciting way. With 2 out and none on in the ninth, trailing 3-1, Roy White singled. Jim Fregosi also singled and Billy Cowen reached on an error to load 'em up for Frank Fernandez who walked forcing in a run. Then pintch hitter Gene Michael ripped a 2 rbi single and that was the ballgame. Yankees 4-6-1 Senators 3-7-2 Game 4 With some of the Yankee regulars having a day off, it looked like a good day for the Senators to get one. But Al Downing pitched a great game limiting the Senators to one first inning run. The Yankees had a big fourth inning with Mr. Yankee (Banks) hitting a 3 run homerun and the Yankees cruise to a 6-1 victory. Downing went all the way allowing 8 hits and striking out 8 Senators. Sorry but no box score for this game is available. New York was 6-1 for the week and has won 10 of their last 12. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com |
