I have noted a special Ted Power appearance in the top of the ninth of game 3.
Game 1 The Montreal Expos defeated the reeling Cincinnati Reds by a score of 5 to 2 at Riverfront Stadium.
Bert Roberge (1-0) was the winning pitcher with a solid relief performance. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. Montreal had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Jeff Reardon earned his 12th save. Mario Soto (3-4) was the loser. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
Game 2 Bob Boone had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Riverfront Stadium as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Montreal Expos by the count of 5 to 3.
Montreal was unable to recover after Cincinnati went ahead in the 6th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 5 hits. Cincinnati had 10 hits for the night.
The victory went to Phil Niekro (4-5) who went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs. Ted Power earned the save, his 2nd. Steve Rogers (2-4) was given the loss.
'It felt really nice to get this win,' Niekro said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
Game 3 Mike Schmidt connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Montreal Expos defeated the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 11 to 2 at Riverfront Stadium.
Montreal started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. That early run support was enough for Dan Schatzeder (6-2) and Montreal . Montreal rapped out 9 hits for the night.
Jay Tibbs (2-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings. With this win, Montreal has a 25-27 record. They have been 4-6 lately. Alan Boodman was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'

Game 4
At Riverfront Stadium, the Cincinnati faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Salome Barojas (3-1) finally bested his Cincinnati counterpart, Jeff Russell (4-3), by the score of 2 to 1.
Montreal had 1 run cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning. Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Barojas got help from Jeff Reardon who earned his 13th save. Russell suffered the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 walks.
Alan Boodman was reflective after the loss, 'We should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
